Aqualyx® is the injectable solution from the deoxycholic acid family developed by Prof. Pasquale Motolese for Marllor Biomedical, intended for the remodelling of localised fat accumulations by means of the intralipotherapy technique. It is presented in 8 ml vials and has been the reference product for this technique for more than fifteen years.
- Base deoxycholic acid family
- Contents 10 vials × 8 ml
- Technique intralipotherapy
- Plane subcutaneous adipose tissue
- Formulation Prof. P. Motolese
Composition and technology
- Active substance: compound of the deoxycholic acid family, according to the manufacturer's description. Deoxycholate is a bile salt with a detergent action on the adipocyte membrane.
- Formulation: developed by Prof. Pasquale Motolese, who is also the author of the intralipotherapy technique with which the product is applied.
The manufacturer does not publish openly the concentration of the active substance, the buffer system or the complete list of excipients. Consult the data sheet accompanying the product and the vial labelling before use.
Marllor also markets a separate reference for the lower facial third — Aqualyx® Face — in kit format and with its own complementary serum (Seralyx). The two references are not interchangeable.
Indications and treatment areas
Indication: remodelling of the body contour in localised and resistant fat accumulations, in normal-weight patients. It is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for liposuction.
Usual body areas: abdomen, flanks, inner thighs and knees, arms and dorsal region (upper back).
For the treatment of the lower facial third and the submental area, the manufacturer offers a specific reference (Aqualyx® Face).
Technique and treatment protocol
- Technique: intralipotherapy. The product is deposited in the subcutaneous adipose tissue, not in the dermis or in the muscular plane.
- Approach: the technique described by the author of the formulation uses long small-gauge needles, with fan-shaped distribution of the product from a small number of entry points, so that the adipose panniculus is treated homogeneously.
- Preparation: rigorous disinfection of the area to be treated before puncture. Prior marking of the area with the patient standing.
- Sessions: the treatment is planned as a cycle of several spaced sessions. Apply the number of sessions, the interval and the maximum volume per session and per area given in the documentation accompanying the product — the manufacturer does not publish those values openly.
- Aftercare: compression and drainage according to the clinic's protocol. Oedema, erythema and local tenderness in the treated area are to be expected over the following days.
Application requires specific training in the intralipotherapy technique and precise knowledge of the anatomy of the adipose plane of the area treated.

Contraindications and warnings
Relevant safety warning: injectable solutions based on deoxycholate have a non-selective cytolytic action. The literature records published cases of skin necrosis after injection that is too superficial and of nodules and chronic infection after adipocytolytic treatments. The correct depth of the deposit in the adipose plane and strict asepsis are decisive.
General contraindications and precautions for this class of product: known hypersensitivity to deoxycholate or to any excipient; pregnancy and breastfeeding; minors; active infection or inflammation, wound or dermatosis in the area to be treated; coagulation disorders or anticoagulant therapy; obesity as an indication (the product is intended for localised accumulations in normal-weight patients); hernias, scars or implants in the puncture area.
Do not inject into the dermis, into the muscular plane or intravascularly. Do not apply over areas with impaired cutaneous vascularisation.
Always consult the instructions for use and the complete list of contraindications accompanying the product before application.
